How We Started

Just a short note here to everyone about how we started....

I, of all people, am not the kind you would think of as fit. Not much sports during school days, except the occasional runs and the basketball games here and there, and a bit of swimming...

Last year, I saw the ad for the Navy Biathlon, and I thought to myself that it was a challenge I want to take up. I guess that was the same for many of us - Faz, Thomas, Chris, Nick.....

Faz tried for the qualifying swim twice. Thomas wasn't a hunk back then (you know his codename was Cellulite Princess)

But we trained together, had lots of laughs, and we pushed each other on. And we managed to complete them - it wasn't the placing that was important - but the fact that we did it. We beat ourselves....

And from Biathlon, we went on to half-marathon and then to marathon... (not me though. I doubt my knees can tahan that kind of punishment)

We had Sheung, Bee, Sella, Ronnie, Roslan and others joining us for the runs - and the vast improvements were incredible.

It doesn't matter if you can only do a few laps, or a few kilometers.... keep on pushing yourself beyond your limits, and we would get there.

Oh wow,

this is somewhat like a reminiscing time for the old fogies is it, esp with all the year end festivities coming. All we need is a rocking chair (to rest our weary old bones) and a fireplace to sooth our muscle cramp.

[...]

To further incentivise the rest to attend our running sessions, how about this tidbit; A few of our runners have actually done some modelling and one has even won to be a Singapore rep for an international competition. I am not going to give any details or photos here. :-)

By the way, we really really run one hor, not play play only. Age range is from over 40 to early 20s. It's also great for beginners as we DO tailor different distance for different standards.

Anyway, the running is not the tiring one. It's Kelvin cool down that's the killer. Experience it to believe.

The only requirement is that all runners must partake in the consumption of an obscene amount of food, following each run. Here it's each man (there are no ladies here when it comes to food) for himself. The slow and shy shall stave. Undisputed Champion at present is Thomas, having dethrone Kelvin a while back.

Do we have fun, You bet we do. (Why do you think I still do it despite the fact that I hate running? Among from the run running with a group, I hate being an invalid in my old age even more)
